Peter Sank—But First, He Walked on Water
Peter walking on water is one of the most familiar stories in the Bible.
Most people remember what happened when Peter became afraid.
He sank.
But before Peter sank, Peter walked.
That part matters.
Jesus called Peter out of the boat, and Peter responded. He stepped onto the water while the storm was still happening around him.
The wind had not stopped.
The waves had not disappeared.
The conditions had not suddenly become safe.
Peter simply trusted Jesus enough to move.
Then something changed.
Peter started paying more attention to the storm than to Christ.
Fear took over.
He began to sink.
And that is where this story becomes incredibly personal.
You can begin something with faith and still become afraid along the way.
You can believe God is leading you and still have moments when doubt gets loud.
You can take a courageous step and later wonder whether you have what it takes to keep going.
That does not mean your faith was meaningless.
It does not mean Jesus abandoned you.
And it does not mean your story is finished.

Peter cried out, “Lord, save me.”
And Jesus immediately reached out His hand.
That word matters: immediately.
Jesus did not wait for Peter to become stronger.
He did not wait for Peter to stop being afraid.
He reached for him while Peter was sinking.
Maybe that is the reminder you need today.
You do not have to pretend that your storm is not real.
You do not have to pretend that fear never affects you.
You simply need to remember where to turn when it does.
Look back toward Jesus.
Call on Him.
Pray again.
Trust again.
Take the next step.
Sometimes faith looks like walking confidently toward Christ.
Sometimes faith looks like crying out to Him when you realize you cannot keep yourself above the water.
Both moments were part of Peter’s story.
And both can be part of yours.
The storm may be real.
The fear may be real.
But so is Jesus.
And His hand is still reaching.
