Feeling Numb?

There are seasons when you still believe in God, still love Jesus Christ, and still want to pray—but your heart feels strangely quiet.

Prayer feels flat. Scripture feels distant. Worship does not move you the way it once did. You remember when faith felt alive, and now you find yourself asking a question many Christians are afraid to say out loud:

Why can’t I feel God anymore?

Spiritual numbness can be frightening because it can make you wonder whether something is wrong with your faith. But sometimes spiritual dryness is not rebellion.

Sometimes it is exhaustion.

Stress, grief, disappointment, anxiety, pressure, unanswered prayer, and the weight of everyday life can build until your heart simply feels tired.

That does not mean you have stopped believing.

And it does not mean God has stopped being faithful.

In When You Are Afraid to Admit That You Cannot Feel God Right Now, Douglas Vandergraph speaks to Christians experiencing spiritual numbness, emotional exhaustion, difficulty praying, unanswered prayers, or a painful sense of distance from God.

You do not have to manufacture a spiritual feeling.

You do not have to pretend every prayer feels powerful.

You do not have to perform for God.

You can come to Jesus honestly and say:

“Lord, I still believe. I just feel tired inside.”

That is still prayer.

Sometimes faith looks like confidence, joy, and certainty.

Other times faith is simply continuing to turn toward Jesus when everything inside you feels quiet.

If you are feeling disconnected from God, struggling with spiritual dryness, or wondering how to reconnect with God when prayer feels empty, I hope this message gives you a place to begin.

Jesus Christ is not only present during the moments when you feel spiritually strong.

He is present in the quiet seasons too.
